European Union announces Ban on Single-Use Plastic

Since past few months, Banning single-use plastic has been adopted by many countries. In order to save the planet and the ocean from getting further polluted, railways, airlines, hotels and residential societies have banned single-use plastic. After India announced a total ban on single-use plastics by 2022, the European Union on Monday has also announced on banning specific single-use plastics from 2021.

As per the news reports, the ban will be executed in the entire European Union nations. From the beginning of 2021, tourists will not be permitted to use or find the certain plastic items on trips to Italy, France, Germany and Spain among other nations. The plastic items which will be banned are- Plastic cutlery (including forks, knives, and spoons), Plastic straws, Plastic plates, Oxo-degradable plastic and polystyrene beverage cups and food containers, Plastic coffee stirrers and Plastic balloon holder sticks.

However, the ban does not include complete ban out of plastic bottles. It states that those plastic containers have to be collected by 2029. The European Union has made it a compulsion to manufacture plastic bottles with 25% recycled material by 2025 and 30% by 2030.
